It is very different. ProgramD's engine, as far as I
could sort it out back when I looked at it, is
compromised to performance: it makes extensive use of
static methods, and doesn't care resorting to complex
algorithms. In contrast, ProgramJ's code strives to be
modular, intuitive, and generaly compliant to object
orientation's good practices.

You might like to know that the current release
contains a class, bitoflife.programj.util.Bot, which
allows ProgramJ to run as a JavaBean. I use it in my
website to run the engine using a customized JSP page
as the interface.
