For the record:
The following <pattern>** BALLOON</pattern> and <pattern>HE HAS THE BALL*
DUDE</pattern> contain no wild cards and will never match a client's input.
Am I correct that wildcards need to be documented as for words only? They
cannot be for a part of a word. As a word they are a single character and
separated from other wildcards or words by spaces.
This is stated in the working draft, but is embedded in BNF notation and set
calculus. Given the simple nature of AIML, perhaps this could be spelled
out in more common language in the standards document.
Since the discussion has tapered off a bit, I offer to add the "cleaning up"
stuff to the working draft so it can be forwarded to the chair for the
adoption as the official documented AIML standard, that is, hopefully more
than a working draft.
