Following the link "Read the Testimonials" (are we Wallace's Witnesses?)
we can read on http://www.alicebot.org/mailing-lists.html

Alicebot Developer Discussion
This mailing list is for active developers in the Alicebot/AIML
community. The archives are open to the public, as is subscription, but
please be sure that your post is related to specific issues encountered
in implementing some Alicebot functionality. English is the usual language.

Thus that mailing list is definitely *not* the right place for our
discussion, because it deals with programming details of the *existing*
specs.
Moreover I consider it - as already expressed - a blind actionism
implementing a half (or less) boiled "service", before the implications
of an AIML change were not seriously discussed here.
So moving the AIML specification process to somewhere else will lead to
the "Embrace and Extend" situation Rich mentioned.

Oh yes, this is "democratic decision-making": The big money envelopes
are handed over to the politicians in the lobby, not in the parliament hall.
Seriously, the ArchComm should make a better work than politicians: We
should monitor the public mailing lists, pick up ideas rising there and
discuss them here on a high level to improve AIML. Our archives are
public, so that everyone can see, how the decisions of changing /
extending AIML came off.
As often expressed, this committee consists not only of interpreter
developers but of AIML writers, AI experts etc. also. Thus the
discussion should take place between them - and only them - to keep out
brain-dead arguments from amateurs ("Some people listen, while others
merely wait to speak." [1]).
Every member of the ArchComm is a specialist - that's why they are in
this committee. This gives us the chance to discuss new features of AIML
from different points of view at the highest stage.
Unluckily I have the impression, that this high standard is eroding...
Ernest
P.S.: It always the same: As long as anyone answers, a useless
discussion will roll on - if not: As you can see, it's quite now on
ArchComm and Developer list...
