I think that Chris tried to explain it last year in the archcomm, and on the
developers list (when the AC was down) with regards to the AIML spec
proposals. Most of us even started using <set var=""> in our examples since
it first came up (somewhere in may last year). The fact that it didn't get
included in the drafts or the final version is another matter - since no-one
actually questioned it very much.
