Kim, I sincerely hope you understand that there is a big difference between
your project and Noel's work on our website, despite attempts to paint them
in the same picture. The emergence of multiple AIML interpreters is one of
the most historic and welcome developments of the past year. In a sense,
these new projects contributed to the conflict with Noel, because the
Foundation has less and less reason to support program D. We are all really
grateful and appreciative of your efforts. No one is even remotely
considering taking over your project or enforcing reporting requirements.
This would be beyond the pale for free software.
The situation with Noel is entirely different because he works within the
legal framework of our non-profit corporation. The corporation owns the
website, not Noel. We have a responsibility to the whole community to
ensure a reliable and continuous service representing all of our needs, not
just those of one person. All of my advisors here perceived the "coup
document" as Noel attempting to shut down the entire Foundation except for
the tiny part, the website, that he controls. Everyone from my
psychiatrist to
journalists to the CEOs of software companies was telling me, "get this guy
off your Board."
