Yes, something to consider; a credible bot that emulates a range of options
for human responses would be one that takes umbrage when it recognizes that it
is being 'put on', abused, or insulted, and then responds accordingly, in
varying degress that could range from an appropriate retort to the complete
cessation of the conversation.. For some reason, bots bring out a puerile streak in
some individuals who may be prone to acting out antisocial tendencies given
any excuse.
That repetitive need to test limits and establish status the way pack animals
react when they confront a new addition to the group.
behaviour with a survival value...
The bots that have physical form can be accessed at:
WireBotViews
{sorry for the popups, it is free and that is my testing ground for now.}
the picture of the bots is an old one; the bots (I have 2 large ones) now
have had facial features modelled out and I would like to equip them with vision.
I have an art background (mfa-painting) so I am still in the process of
reading and learning about the technological aspects of botmaking. I want these
bots to be a combination of high tech materials and discards...the second one is
in segments and will contain multimedia images (The Mediated Body)
I have a series of 5 wire bot heads that I want to connect as an
interdependent group...
I'll have more pictures online in a few days...I'm working out a general
organization in what might seem to be a decentered space with no clear direction
I'd also like to collect links to other places that a visitor might want to
experience...
well, my sister does rescue animals as she finds them, so there is something
of that inclination in her attitude toward bots, also.
And I agree that it is interesting to see the range of attitudes toward a
bot; what people do when they think they have the freedom to poke and prod and
tests the limits of the bot, eventually demanding more options from the
botmaster. Reminds me of the piece in the museum in Denmark with the goldfish in a
blender; as if people had to destroy innocent life to ask that question over
again about the limits of freedom...
Thanks for all the references and insights
and no, bots do not have to be sentient for this to be an issue {in my
estimation}
