Christian,
I haven't seen Das Boot in so many years. Isn't it about how people behave in
a crisis situation? Maybe that was a bit of foresight then, recommending it.
The Herzog film I recall is about a guy trying to bring opera to the jungle.
I forget the name of it now, oh! google reminded me: Fitzcarraldo. But then
the filmmakers made a great documentary about making that film, and called it
"Burden of Dreams". Astounding.
Herzog is referred to as a "great German visionary" in filmmaking.
Sorry, hard to concentrate. Today's events are too hard to forget even for a
minute. The depressing irony of today is that America may lose some of it's
freedoms as a result of the attack. That we might turn on ourselves, and let
the terrorists win, by passing laws that degrade privacy and freedom. Such a
young country, as someone said "losing it's innocence".
I really appreciate you telling me about your youth--that helped me understand
so much more than I knew. Thank you.
Tamara
