Like many people, I would be quite happy to see the Taleban wiped out.
It is my understanding that the majority of the people in Afghanistan
would agree with me. The Taleban seems about as representative of Islam
(and of Afghan public opinion) as Josef Stalin was of Russian public
opinion. Remember, the Islamic world is (no thanks to the USA) almost
completely devoid of democratically elected governments, so holding an
entire religion responsible for the actions of governments or terrorist
organizations is just absurd.
I just hope Bush remembers General Musharraf's name this time.
Anyway, I wish you luck Bill. You seem open to the concept that maybe
your ideas are bigoted, and that's important. Most bigots think that
their gut opinion is natural and correct -- and that changing it would
be admitting to a moral lapse. I apologize for seeming condescending,
but I hope you learn more than just the fact that Islam is not
inherently evil -- I hope you also learn to appreciate the diversity of
the world's religions, show some peace and love for your fellow man and
woman, and put aside the aspect of your belief that says that Islam is
inherently wrong. Otherwise you're just as bad as the fundamentalists.
Good luck to you.
