Let's consider it, and then write them back and say we agree with ALICE. ;-)
I mean, if I were ready to end it all, what better place to ask advice than
chatterbot on a web page? Why not ask a total stranger "should I die?" That
would be unthinkable. Better to rely on the cautious ponderings of my magic
8-ball, or what if I turn off all the lights and write on my etch-a-sketch
upside down with a friend?

Mom: "My son killed himself because ALICE said it was
okay."

Police: "But what about the Marylin Manson CD's and the Ozzy Ozborne posters
in his room, are you sure he wasn't a Satan worshiper?"

Mom: "No, we considered suing the record companies, but we thought this
non-profit, free software bunch would provide better publicity, and maybe we
can get on Larry King with that."

Police: "Surely you're not trying to imply that a robot told your son to
kill himself?"

Mom: "That thing could have told him to kill us all in our sleep! That son
of sam killer took his orders from a dog, so why not a talking web page?"

Police: "If I told you that a man came to me on a flaming pie and said you
are officer Beatlemeyer with an A, would you believe me?"

Mom: "Now you're being silly."

Robby.
