[alicebot-aiethics] How should we respond to this?

This is similar to a situation I had with a client who was displeased that
his conversation was logged. The best I can suggest is a formal apology and
the addition of a small disclaimer on the alicebot chat page. I think a
disclaimer is always a smart idea when logging, it's similar to when you
call a customer service line and hear, " your call may be monitored or
recorded."

To ease some of the parent's fears you may want to let him (her) know that
ALICE uses no improper language or themes, and that the information logged
by ALICE isn't stored for any type of marketing, resale, or release. I
remember in the news not too long ago when Toys 'R Us, I think it was them,
came under fire by having children give out personal information to the
website for demographic research. That might be a concern to the parent.

As for the daughter having " trouble " I'm unclear of what that means. I'd
be a little worried that the parent will request that you remove the
daughter's conversations from the chat log. This ties in with the "falling
in love with robots", and "1st amendment gossip" threads we've been
discussing.

Finally, are you certain she was talking to the alicebot.org alice? Or could
she have been talking to another bot that used a lot of default AIML. That
could also be a factor if the parent decides to bring this to a media
outlet, as angry parents do.
