I see the internet as nothing too drastically different from cable
television minus the costs of traditional broadcasting. In major cities =
such
as, New York, there is plenty of public access television programming
displaying negative and (or) counter culture themes. I recall one such
program I saw funded by a small Muslim group that taught Muslim's how =
they
should prepare for the holy war and demonstrated the proper way to =
torture
white people when they caught and enslaved. If this same subject matter =
or
similar themes were explored on the web they might gain national or
international attention under the banner, "The Internet Breeds Hate." =
The
headline would be immediately followed by political oppinionists =
debating
the reasons why the 'net should be regulated. It's a double standard =
that we
have to live with for the time being. Unlike other media providers, i.e. =
the
cable television industry, the Internet requires additional hardware =
above
and beyond a standard television set to receive its signal, this breeds =
a
mystery about it.

As many people are unaware the cable television industry has no real
rescritions. The divisions enforced against nudity and language only =
exist
as a bi-product of advertiser concerns. For example, why would it be =
legal
for cinemax and the playboy channel to show pornography? Because they =
other
it as a member service. Nick at Night won't do it because they'd lose
advertiser revenue. The web and all things related to it, like ALICE, =
should
follow similar guidlines. As soon as the old men in the American =
congress
understand " what the internet does " controversies surrounding =
censorship
will fade.

As for a list of popular A.I. misconceptions, I think that's a great =
idea!

The first one that I can think of is actually a question someone asked =
me
about my bot.

" Well, what if she doesn't want to answer questions about your company
anymore?"

People seem to think that A.I.'s have the ability to choose beyond
parameters that botmasters set. Perhaps one day they will, but right now
it's still a while off.
